Stress, feelings of being overwhelmed, uncertainty, anxiety, can be suffocating and it already has claimed a few lives through suicide during this crisis.

God is an awesome God and He will help you through this. He promises His presence through it ALL. He is not a God Who runs when there are times of trouble. He is God Who holds your hand, Who holds you close, Who speaks tenderly to you the way a mother comforts a child.

1) Pray to Jesus Christ

 

This needs to be at the top of your list. Praying to Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ alone will help prepare you for the rest of the day. Go before every time you are feeling some type of way and I mean every time. He doesn’t get tired of our presence and we can rest in His.

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” (Rom. 8:26)

Prayer also goes beyond walls, cities, nursing homes, state lines, and countries. Where we can’t be, our words through the power of Jesus Christ can go. It can reach those family members in hospital beds, those who are grieving, and those who you love and can’t be with right now.

God is showing the world just how much prayer really does work and isn’t just a “thoughts and prayers” cliché everyone seems to think is just an empty practice. It transforms hearts, gives us God’s direction in what to do during this time, and changes the atmosphere. We are in spiritual battle not just for ourselves and our minds during this time but also for those around us.

I pray when you pray to Him, you will find more of yourself. I pray you won’t feel so lost in these moments but truly be bare before Him. I pray as you spend time in prayer, you will be strengthened by His presence. I pray you get to know Him more and the more you get to know Him, the less you rely on yourself. I pray the words would flow freely and you would be honest yet honoring before your King. I pray you will hear Him and as you get filled, you can then move and fill others in return.

The Israelites had to get manna every morning to sustain them in the desert, we must do the same. God shows us in the Word of God how to handle a crisis and it always involves Him. Going before Him at the very beginning of your day will help set you for His provision and power for the rest of the day. He knows what you will dealing with. Don’t start the day without putting on your spiritual armor and direction. He will spiritually dress you for the day and that can only happen in His presence.

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”(Eph. 6:10-11)

I pray you will find the Lord Jesus Christ in the morning. Before you look at the news, before you go on social media, before you do anything. I pray as you will Him in the secret place, a place you created for just you and Him. Even if its just on your bed, or on your floor, He is a God Who meets His children where they are no matter what it looks like. He will give you everything you need for the day. I pray you will feel the fruit from dedicating the first part of the morning like a tithe of the day to your God.

 

3) Routine

 

Having routine helps. If having an hour by hour schedule works, then do it. For me, I have an idea and time blocks of how I would like the day to go but there is room for flexibility in case something gets me sad and I need time to grieve or there’s a beautiful moment I don’t want to end just yet.

Routine helps bring back some normal to your days. You know what comes next and relieves some of the anxiety of the unknown. Even if it’s a simple schedule like shower at 10am and read a book at 11am. For this time, it’s okay.

Lead your day, do not let the day lead you.

It can throw you into a frenzy of news articles, conspiracy theories, and whatever else that will seek to steal your peace. Hand in hand with the Lord, you dictate what the day will look like and what you want to achieve.

“Making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.” (Eph. 5:16)

I pray the Lord will show you how to create a routine or schedule that will help keep you grounded during this time. I pray you will find hidden pockets of time where you can grow, love, and be. I pray through routine you can find some normalcy in such an uncertain time. I pray you will learn how to lead your day and not let the day lead you. I pray you will start to grab hold of some normalcy so you can bring the calm and peace the Lord provides to keep your mind from being pulled into unhealthy directions.

 

4) Flexibility-

 

Being flexible during this time is important. We can’t make our schedule our god during this time although it can be tempting to. Leave flexibility for a phone call or playing outside a little longer with relatives or reading a few more chapters because you are in a good place.

Leave flexibility within yourself.

There are times you may feel great and there are times when it will seem too much. 5) Stay on Goals

 

Now is a great time to look back on goals, pick up something you put down, and start to plan for the future. The time is going to pass anyway so why not fill it learning how to get to your goal. It could be learning a new skill or having conversations with people who are now home. Revisit, rewrite, or relearn.

There may be goals you see now as insignificant. That’s okay.

God has a way of turning our heart towards His. What does He want for your life? How can we align our life with His plan for us. I once heard the definition of hell is meeting the person you were supposed to be and I will add the person God created you to be.

Research online resources, join some free webinars, utilize your library online. Eventually, we will come on the other side of this. Why not be prepared?

I pray you will continue to have vision for your life. I pray the Lord will show you what is important and what isn’t during this season. I pray your heart will meet His. I pray with all the voices quieted and distance provided, you will be able to hear His voice and be able to make your own decisions in your life. I pray you will make steps towards your goal even if you think they are too small, they are still stepping into the direction of God’s will and direction for your life. I pray for you to be brave in seeking these things out and the Lord will give you courage to follow them through.

 

6) Cry

 

There are some moments worth crying over. It can come up on you unexpectedly. Not everyone knows how to handle a crisis. Maybe something you did normally, is now no longer. The dog you used to pet every day going to school, you can’t pet anymore and you both feel it. True story!

The reality of this quarantine hits in different ways.

My littlest daughter fell off her scooter and my neighbors didn’t see my hubby and I coming up from behind. They were in a frenzy trying to figure whether or not to pick her up because of the social distancing we are under. They were afraid for her and for themselves. It was a humbling moment realizing the season we are in. I felt sad for them, for me, for my little one crying.

It’s okay to take those moments and honor them with tears. Crying keeps you soft. Don’t allow this season to callous your heart. Keep being soft and allowing the feelings to be felt and the tears to talk. These are God given gifts. Use them.

“Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.” (Rom. 12:15)

I pray you will allow the release of tears to flow freely and not hold back the healing your body, spirit, and mind need right now. I pray you will allow your heart to speak and I pray you can do it in the presence of the Almighty King. I pray you grieve all those moments worth grieving and at the same time rejoice in those moments that are worth rejoicing over. I pray in this season we will all take off the masks and be real with our Creator even if it looks ugly. The Almighty King is a good God and He will take what we bring as a burnt sacrifice and pour out a blessing over us.

 

7) Stay Connected

 

Call friends and family. Yes, call. It may be weird at first, but we are in a weird time. It breaks down barriers and invites us to be real with where we are. A friend of mine called me when she read my text messages in a group text and could tell I was struggling. Take advantage of whatever your church offers during this season virtually. The children’s Pastor at my church has done an excellent job of offering different ways of connecting with her during this season. Be a part of something like that. If your church doesn’t have it, find a church that does in the meantime. Maybe reach out to your church and offer suggestions. Maybe help them set some virtual connections. Stay connected to the body of Christ. Isolation and loneliness are rampant.

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Heb. 10:24-25)

I pray you will find connection during this time. I pray the Lord will show you who to call and who to connect with. They may need it just as much as you. I pray if there hasn’t been a connection to a church in the past that you will find connection now. I pray as you reach out to leaders of the church, you can help be a part of the online movement happening with churches across the world. I pray as you hear the voices of your loved ones, it will allow the barriers to break down and give you the space to be real. I pray you accept the invitation to be real and not hold back. May you and the body of Christ be a blessing to you. I pray you have courage to contact and call someone.

 

8) Worship

It may seem weird to worship right now but if we look at people in the Bible, like King David, some of the best praise songs come from deep trouble. It helps center you on Him and it helps clear the atmosphere of those things that are not of God. It helps you see that God is still good, be thankful for what you do have, and it helps release whatever it is you need to release during this season.

Right now, there is a lot of time. Use that time in worship. One thing about the Lord is time in His presence is satisfying yet you can’t get enough. Allow worship time to cleanse you, heal you, and give praises to the Almighty King Who is still on the throne.

“But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress.” (Psalm 59:16)

I pray you will be blessed in your time of worshipping the Almighty King. I pray the Lord will nourish you, cleanse you, restore you, and heal you. I pray you will know His presence, know His power, and know Him intimately during this time. I pray you will experience Him in new ways during this season. I pray in your distress you will worship louder. I pray you will find a new song when the old one feels worn out. I pray your worship will go deeper and your heart will soar higher to the heavens, before the throne of the Almighty King, and may your mouth be blessed with His praises.

 

I pray all of these things in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ, amen!

  1. I am so glad you added cry! At first I when I saw cry, I wanted to laugh because yes, I have cried over spilled milk but yes, you are right. We do not know how to handle all things. It is ok if we become overwhelmed and need to cry. Crying is freeing for us emotionally and with stress. Great post to keep us focused on Jesus. =)

  2. I love this!! Just read this with my 14 year-old (hormonal) daughter. She just cried not a few minutes ago and it was so refreshing to see such a practical but often not discussed tip… crying. Loved this!!
